British director Douglas Hickox is best known for directing the cult favorite Theatre of Blood, the film in which Vincent Price plays an ingeniously vengeful Shakespearean ham out for revenge against the smug critics who panned him and destroyed his career. Hickox got his start directing commercials for the distinguished Illustra Films during the 1960s. After winning several awards, he branched out into films. Other well-known Hickox films include Brannigan (1975) and Master of Ballantre (1984).
