According to his official studio biography, American screenwriter and director Finis Fox was a former newspaper editor and member of the Oklahoma legislature. A busy scenario writer in the 1910s, Fox wrote for such stars as Mabel Taliaferro, Harold Lockwood, Bert Lytell (including a 1920 version of the eternally popular Alias Jimmy Valentine), and Bessie Love. Becoming a director in his own right in the early 1920s, Fox mainly helmed low-budget films. Returning to screenwriting late in his career, Fox penned some of Dolores Del Rio's best early vehicles, including Ramona (1928) and Evangeline (1929).
