Distinguished American screenwriter James Poe was among the most literate screenwriters in Hollywood. He was best known for his screen adaptations of contemporary American literature. Poe began his career as a writer for The March of Time series of documentary-style newsreels. In 1956, Poe shared an Oscar for co-writing the script of Around the World in 80 Days.
