Was a co-captain and starting guard of the 1964 Arkansas football team that won the national championship. Passed on an opportunity to buy the San Diego Chargers in 1967 to further his degree at Arkansas. Bought the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Stadium for $140 million in 1989. One of his first moves as owner/general manager of the Cowboys was firing legendary coach Tom Landry and replacing him with friend and former teammate Jimmy Johnson. Dedicated the Cowboys Thanksgiving Day halftime show as a national showcase to kick off The Salvation Army's annual Red Kettle Drive. Has a cameo as himself in Dallas: War of the Ewings.
