John Fogerty

Played with his brother Tom Fogerty in the Blue Velvets in the late 1950s; the group later became the Golliwogs, and eventually evolved into Creedence Clearwater Revival. Joined the U.S. Army Reserve in the mid-'60s to avoid being drafted. Scored nine Top 10 hits---all of which he wrote---with CCR from 1969 to 1972. A year after leaving CCR, released a 1973 album of cover songs as the Blue Ridge Rangers, in which Fogerty sang and played all the instruments. Did not record from 1975 to 1984 because of legal problems with his former label, Fantasy Records. Was sued by Fantasy because "The Old Man Down the Road," a cut from his 1985 solo album, Centerfield, allegedly too closely resembled the CCR song "Run Through the Jungle." Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a member of CCR, in 1993; inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005. Reunited with Fantasy in 2005---for the release of best-of album The Long Road Home---when the label's new owners arranged to restore royalty rights Fogerty had relinquished in the mid-'70s to gain release from his contract.
