The son of country singers Johnnie Wright and Kitty Wells, John Robert Wright led a two-tiered performing career for much of the 1960s. On the one hand, he was Bobby Wright as part of the Kitty Wells-Johnnie Wright Family Show, doing music with his parents and sister; on the other, starting in 1962, he was John Wright, actor, playing laid-back, good-natured southern radioman Willy Moss on the comedy series McHale's Navy. In 1966, the year of the show's cancellation, he did guest shots in a pair of western series (The Road West, Pistols 'n Petticoats) before returning to his parents' music orbit. Wright wasn't seen again as an actor on-screen until the 1980s, when he showed up in the Canadian-made prison drama Walls (aka Lock Up) (1984).
