A native of Austria, Leopold Lindtberg was the most important filmmaker in Switzerland during the 1940s winning the Cannes Peace Prize in 1945 for The Last Chance. Lindtberg started out in 1924 as a theatrical actor. In 1928, he became a director and moved to Switzerland shortly after the Nazis came to power. His 1951 film Four in a Jeep won first prize at the Berlin Film Festival.
