Pete Postlethwaite
Birthday:
Birthplace:
Warrington, Cheshire, England,
An esteemed veteran of British theater and television, Pete Postlethwaite entered feature films in 1984, and thereafter gained international recognition as one of the best character actors of the 1990s, noted for his reliable and often powerful performances. On stage, he performed with such prestigious groups as the Manchester Royal Exchange and the Liverpool Everyman, as well as the Royal Shakespeare Company. Postlethwaite entered film in the chaotic comedy A Private Function (1984). His first big break came when he played the tyrannical patriarch in Terence Davies's Distant Voices, Still Lives (1988). Notable subsequent film credits include Oscar-nominated supporting turns as Guiseppe Conlon in In the Name of the Father (1993), the Player King in Hamlet (1990), and a nicely over-the-top villain in Jurassic Park: The Lost World (1997). Later that same year, Postlethwaite set sail with Spielberg one again, only this time in decidedly more grim capacity, in the historical slave drama Amistad. Though many moviegoers may not have necessarily pegged Postlethwaite as leading man material, his role as a man who experiences a strange transformation in the 2000 family comedy Rat proved him well capable of holding his own for an hour-and-a-half. His supporting roles becoming ever more prominant as the decade wore on, Postlethwaite navigated multiple genres with ease by turning up as a crusty building supervisor in the psychological horror thriller Dark Water, the keeper of a great conspiracy in the sci-fi action entry Æon Flux, and a shady drug company man in The Constant Gardener, a dramatic thriller detailing a determined widower's efforts to solve the mystery of his wife's murder. A scenery-chewing turn as an ill-fated priest attempting to save his soul in the high-profile 2006 remake The Omen preceded yet another trip into dark territory in Lamberto Bava's Ghost Son. Occasionally, Postlethwaite also tackled starring roles such as that of Danny in the upbeat British outing Brassed Off (1996) or the crazed Thomas Smithers in The Serpent's Kiss (1997). Postlethwaite died of cancer at age 64 in early 2011.

Quotes from Pete Postlethwaite's Characters
Guiseppe Conlon: | I want you to have some respect. |
Gerald Conlon: | Respect for who? |
Guiseppe Conlon: | Respect for yourself. |
The Keeper: | Welcome back. |
Roland Tembo: | Let's get this moveable feast on the way! |
Roland Tembo: | Peter, if you want me to run your little camping trip, there are two conditions: first, I'm in charge, and when I'm not around, Dieter is. All you have to do is sign the checks, tell us we're doing a good job, and open your case of scotch when we have a good day. Second condition: my fee? You can keep it. All I want in return for my services is the right to hunt one of the tyrannosaurs. A male, a buck only. How and when is my business. Now if you don't like either of those conditions, you're on your own. So go ahead, set up base camp right here, or in a swamp, or in the middle of a Rex nest for all I care. But I've been on too many safaris with rich dentists to listen to any more suicidal ideas, OK? |
Roland Tembo: | Remember that chap about twenty years ago? I forget his name. Climbed Everest without any oxygen, came down nearly dead. When they asked him, they said why did you go up there to die? He said I didn't, I went up there to live. |
Danny: | More than ought else here that symbolizes pride, it's this bloody band! |
Danny: | This is music.. And it's music that matters! |
Danny: | Bit clumsy with the crockery, your Sandra. |
Father Brennan: | When the Jews return to Zion, and a comet fills the sky, and the holy Roman Empire rises, then you and I must die. From the eternal sea he rises, creating armies on either shore, turning man against his brother, until man exists no more. |
Robert Fischer Jr: | I know, Dad. I know you were disappointed I couldn't be you. |
Maurice Fischer: | No, no, no... I was disappointed... that you tried. |
Robert Fischer Jr: | I know you were disappointed I couldn't be you. |
Maurice Fischer: | No, no, no. I was disappointed that you tried. |
Gilbert: | [to the cannidbal-threating mob having just learned of Bowen's scheme, suspecting his involvement] Peace, brothers! Peace! [the mob keeps coming, he turns to run] Heathens! |
Gilbert: | [voiceover] And in the days following Draco's sacrifice, Bowen and Kara led the people in a time of justice and brotherhood. As I remember it now, those were golden years warmed by an unworldly light. And when things became the most difficult, Draco's star shown more brightly for all of us who knew where to look. |
Gilbert: | [Bowen has just pretended to kill Draco for a second time] Well done, Bowen! You've done it again! What a brute! That's even bigger than the last one! |
Bowen: | Actually, he's about the same size. |
Nick Van Owen: | The T-Rex exists on the planet for the first time in tens of millions of years and the only way you can express yourself is to kill it? |
Roland Tembo: | Remember that chap about twenty years ago? I forget his name. He climbed Everest without any oxygen and came down nearly dead. And they asked him, "Why did you go up there to die?" and he said, "I didn't. I went up there to live." |

Roland Tembo: | The Rex was just fed, so it won't stalk us for food. |
Ian Malcolm: | Just fed? I assume you're talking about Eddie? You might want to show a little respect, the man saved our lives by giving his. |
Roland Tembo: | Then his troubles are over. My point is, the predators don't hunt when they're not hungry. |
Nick Van Owen: | No, only humans do. |
Roland Tembo: | Oh, you're breaking our hearts. Saddle up! Let's get this moveable feast on the way! |
Nick Van Owen: | How far is the village? |
Peter Ludlow: | Oh, a day's walk, maybe more. But that's not the problem. |
Roland Tembo: | What is the problem? |
Peter Ludlow: | Velociraptors. |
Spyros: | One day, somebody's gonna have to make a stand! One day, somebody's gonna have to say: ENOUGH! |
Karl: | I'm telling people they're the next U2, only better looking, and gay. |
Robert Fischer Jr: | I know dad, i know you were disappointed i couldn't be you. |
Robert Fischer Jr: | I know dad, I know you were disappointed I couldn't be you. |
Maurice Fischer: | No no no...i was disappointed...that you tried. |
