Mother was a children's music songwriter, as well as an editor for Sesame Street magazine. Met future Phish songwriting partner Tom Marshall while attending middle school at New Jersey's Princeton Day School. Hosted an early-morning radio show called Ambient Alarm Clock at the University of Vermont. Formed long-running jam band Phish at the University of Vermont in the early 1980s; the group released its debut album, Junta, in 1988 on Elektra Records. Following two compilations of solo demos and outtakes, released his first official studio album, Trey Anastasio, on Elektra in 2002. Ranked No. 73 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time in 2003.
