Best remembered for his appearances in D.W. Griffith's True Heart Susie (1919), as Bobby Harron's father, and Broken Blossoms (1920), veteran stage actor William Higby (born William Higby Jones) had appeared in stock opposite the likes of Otis Skinner, Wilton Lackaye, and Marguerite Clark and was a respected character player when entering films with Universal in 1914. Long associated with Fine Arts-Triangle, Higby appeared in top supporting roles opposite the young Douglas Fairbanks, working closely with Griffith protégés Elmer Clifton and W. Christy Cabanne. His screen career continued unabated through the 1920s, where he was often cast as the heroine's father or uncle.
