Received an 8mm camera when he was 14 and began shooting short films. Played bass in a pop-rock band called the Plagues, which released several 45s. Designed masks for Don Post Studios; createdthe Michael Myers maskfor Halloween (1979). Directed the 1999 remake of House on Haunted Hill, which set a box-office record for a Halloween debut. Directed episodes of several TV anthology series, including Freddy's Nightmares, Tales From the Crypt and Masters of Horror.
