What it has to say about the awful consequences of our actions as a species is a bitter pill to swallow, or a hard message to bear.

The problem with Prophecy is that it can't decide whether it wants to be a serious indictment of corporate corruption or a campy, old-fashioned monster marathon.

[Frankenheimer] had a far better eye for the industrial and cultural conflict of the setting, than the screaming, the wailing, and the gnashing of ursine teeth.

Mother Nature strikes back - but it's mostly boring, then silly, instead of gory and tense.

Aside from the bonkers bear monster, the film's one saving grace is Talia Shire.

Many consider Prophecy the nadir of director John Frankenheimer's career, but despite its occasional dopiness, I'll take it in a heartbeat over the likes of Reindeer Games and that truly bizarre Brando version of The Island of Dr. Moreau.

Audience Reviews for Prophecy

The first 60 minutes is totally unnecessary. After the hour mark Man Bear Pig shows up and then movie is surprisingly fun. The sleeping bag kill is awesome.

It's not a complete failure...but it's pretty close. Cheesy acting, cliched plot and a script that even I could write better, Prophecy is deserving of its obscurity. The gooey mutant bear is pretty hip though, and that scene where it bitch-slaps the boy in the sleeping bag is amazing.
