Not sure how I missed this one when it first came out, being the Alamo buff that I am, but I saw most of it the other night on cable, except for the first hour or so.
In retrospect, my lasting image of Stacy Keach, acting like a buffoon at the battle of San Jacinto was quite comical, especially when it was done in slow motion with an o.k. soundtrack backing it up. It was like watching the 3 Stooges in slow motion while listening to the soundtrack of The Big Country.
Ricky Schroder and Randy Travis did a good job, but the guy who played Rusty Griswold in the first two Vacation movies was totally out of place. They might as well have played Chevy Chase as Stephen F Austin instead of the weepy Patrick Duffy.

I admit that I haven't read the novel that this was based on, but I found this to be a solid Made for TV movie. The production values are those you typically see with a mid 90's TV movie and the cast is fairly strong with the exception of David Keith as Jim Bowie. The action is solid, the dialogue is decent.. The downside is that at over 3 hours it's overly long and wears out it's welcome.
