Critic Reviews for The Princess and the Frog
The Princess and the Frog will certainly be remembered years later as not only a pioneer Disney movie, but also one that allowed audiences to never let go of their dreams and that with love anything is possible, no matter your age or color.
The backgrounds are beautifully drawn. There are sunny days in the French Quarter, spooky nights among live oaks hung with Spanish moss, and a rousing denouement at the Mardi Gras.
If the film boasts any advantages over digital, it's in the pastel richness of its colours and the elasticity of its characters, who enjoy a degree of comic flexibility and range of expressions we still don't get from computers.
The nineteen-twenties jazz-age setting and the primal-adventure storytelling are boilerplate Disney, scrubbed clean of any real local color.
Audience Reviews for The Princess and the Frog
Disney's brief throwback to a traditional hand-drawn animation is this mildly amusing re-creation of the New Orleans of the 1920s with its jazz, voodoo, bayous and an African-American heroine who very conveniently doesn't have to deal with any sort of prejudice in those times.
this movie was a breath of fresh air from all the CG movies at the time, it had fantastic animation, characters, acting, comedy, and songs. By far my favorite character in the movie was the Shadows man/ Dr. Facilier who sings the best song in the whole movie and also has a great voice
Disney's return to a rather classical approach to animated films (and storytelling) is mostly aimed at a very young and female audience. The rest should still have a hard time getting bored with the lovely characters, colorful set pieces and catchy Jazz songs, but adults and boys probably expect a little more edge in their films. Especially the story is somewhat generic, from the protagonist's dilemma to the villain and the cute sidekicks. If you've seen more than three Disney films in your time you will find it hard to be surprised at any point throughout this film. That doesn't mean it isn't well done, offers a few laughs and decent entertainment. Kids will certainly love it.
