Alice in Wonderland (2010)

Critic Consensus: Tim Burton's Alice sacrifices the book's minimal narrative coherence -- and much of its heart -- but it's an undeniable visual treat.

The movie badgers rather than charms, but it's rescued by Helena Bonham Carter's brisk performance as the Red Queen.

Disney's is kind of a tepid liberal feminism, but that's far more badass and entertaining than no feminism at all.

It's horribly generic. This is a Disney film and it feels like a Disney film, whereas I'd hoped it would feel like a Tim Burton film.

Though visually stunning, Alice In Wonderland is more funny than anything else (thanks mostly to Depp's Mad Hatter).

Burton is in dispassionate, for-hire mode.

The imposition of a fairytale quest structure turns the surrealist wanderings (and wonderings) of a free-associating dreamer into a brusque crash-zoom, as Alice hurtles towards her appointment on the good-versus-evil battlefield.

Audience Reviews for Alice in Wonderland

Not Burton's best. The visuals completely overwhelm the story and characters to the point that it is rather distracting. The story is also way too straightforward for Alice in Wonderland. The performances are fine, but no one really stands out. Depp was the driving force of the hype and I was a little disappointed that his character really wasn't much. Him and Burton have created magic before, but this is not one of those times. It can be entertaining for sure, but it's forgettable and certainly one of the lesser Burton collaborations. Hopefully the sequel can build off of this and deliver a truly wacky story.

I liked the plot. The movie made more sense than Lewis Carroll's book. I didn't mind the computer graphics or the acting.

Such a disappointment! Tim Burton just slaughtered the story and the 3-d was horrible! Johnny Depp was alright, same goes for Mia Wasikowska. Just a waste of my money and a large hole of hate growing for Tim Burton! The story had no heart and the over exaggeration in CGI wasnt helping.
