Critic Reviews for Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy
They don't even make the monster look believable. I think you can see his underwear. It's a comedy, not a cartoon.
Pure shtick, played by men who absolutely did not have the energy or the motivation to do their shtick well.
Probably no worse than the usual Abbott and Costello comedies in the long running series, it just seems worse.
Abbott and Costello were really the ones able to finally kill Universal's classic monsters.
Audience Reviews for Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy
Repetitive more than rascally, Meet the Mummy sadly captures the classic comedy team near the end of their long road toward breaking up. Funny enough, they re-ignited interest in the classic Universal monster franchises even while they were losing popularity and their own spark. Not only is their brand of humor going out of style at this point, but they show pretty much zero interest in performing their craft well. In this not-so-classic universal horror-comedy, Bud and Lou find themselves pursued by an Egyptian cult for a special medallion linked to a walking mummy. The story matters little. For these team-ups with the classic Universal monsters, they already did. The laughs and (now) dated thrills keeps you vestedat least, they should. Instead, this go-round just drags its foot. Throughout the film, the Mummy actually shows more energy than this once-great duo. He even gets the most laughs with a bandaged outfit that looks less convincing than those worn by most pint sized trick or treaters. Bottom line: Mummy Merest
This Abbott and Costello movie didn't get many good reviews, probably because it plays too much like Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein or anything else they have done. While a lot of the jokes can be repetitive. Still, these two were fun to watch, especially on the same screen as monsters like the Mummy. While for comedies, these movies had surprisingly nice costumes and set pieces. I'm not sure what's not to like about anything Abbott and Costello did.
Nice comedic moments with the comedy team.
