...the arms-length atmosphere [is] compounded by seriously low-rent visuals and Dudikoff's wooden (and far from athletic) turn as the bland central character.

American Ninja was still a compltely awful movie. But educational in its own awful way. Now when I see my next ninja movie I'll have something to compare it to.

Audience Reviews for American Ninja

I would have watched this film over 50 times growing up, but Cannon had that niche in the market. American Ninja is a bad film, but if you are a young teenage boy, this film has everything. The filmmaking is laughable and the action scenes are repetitive to the point of being super boring. Dudikoff was a good choice, but he knows little to no ninja skills. The music is over the top and those action scenes are poorly staged, the scene with the jeep and the motor bike was cringe worthy. This a so bad, it's bad film and nothing will take that away. It will serve as a guilty pleasure for the target market, but sadly for someone looking bad at the films that inspired him. This just never holds up. 24/01/2019.
