Movie Info

A group of super-intelligent, gigantic rainforest bugs go undercover as the Applegates, an average suburban family, in this satirical fantasy. Originally intending to destroy mankind with a nuclear explosion and rule a Utopian, bug-inhabited Earth, the insects instead find themselves increasingly absorbed by the temptations of American consumer society.

Is there a satirical point here? Parallels we can draw with real life? Lessons to learn? ... This movie doesn't even seem to have a point of view.

If it had a tighter plot, I'd say it's a commentary on terrorism, but it's so delightfully sloppy that it's best viewed as a how-to against product placement. Seriously, the product placement in this film is insane.

Not worth "Meeting"

September 20, 2002 | Rating: 2/5

High marks for concept, lowered for a too-pat conclusion, but worth a look

August 14, 2002 | Rating: 3/5

Very weird and pretty bad, but fascinating in a train-wreck sort of way.

Really dull and ridiculous of five Brazilian beetles disguise themselves as the average American family.
