Critic Reviews for Arthur & Merlin

All Critics (3) feels padded and overlong, with an awful lot of running about that doesn't achieve or communicate much. Despite it attempts to engage a sense of enchantment and mystery, it is successful only in brief bursts, and viewers cannot live on grit alone.

Slow-paced Arthurian tale has some fantasy violence.

Arthur and Merlin is a triumph of British independent filmmaking and a modern fantasy staple. Van Belle has conjured an atmospheric adventure, full of quirky campiness, rollicking good humour and, most importantly, fun.

Audience Reviews for Arthur & Merlin

I know it's major point of advertising was "We based this on the same thing that Tolkein (partially) based Middle Earth on!" so when the plotlines intersected I took no issue. But when the visual style and the score (Oh my God the score) struggled to get as close to the style of the Lord of the Rings films as they could without literally being sued for copyright infringement, the embarassment was near fatal. The title is of course willingly misleading, and the effects and acting are underwhelming on the reg. Otherwise, "Arthur & Merlin" is what I would call "Just okay".
