Mathew Tang apparently had his hand in a host of diverse HK movies as assistant director, before finally directing indie feature B420 on his own. B420 is a damn near brilliant youth film that ows a lot of it's appeal to it's quaint Macau setting and it's atypical but genuinely likeable characters. Tang's take on the genre is very sympathetic and fresh, since treats his characters and their problems pretty seriously, but without having them plunge head first into drug abuse or criminal activity for the sake of realness. Superficially, B420 is quietly reminiscent of Fruit Chan's classic Made In Hong Kong, and Tang even employs Sam Lee to play what seems like an older charicature of his character in said movie.

Great and deep movie - despite its young and funny appearance.
Miki Yeung is beautiful and perfect for the role she acts in - that of a young pretty girl who doesn't even think about what she wants from life, or what happiness could be for her.
It's a shame that b420 is destined to remain, as many others, nearly unknown.

Simply Amazing movie about how much life can suck and how it doesn't always go our way. Awesome acting from Miki Yeung and Ben Hung with some funny moment but with a serious and touching message underneath it all.
