The melodrama can be forgiven. What lingers in the mind is Richardson's hard-won, grown-up humanism.
Watching Lange and Jones together is like being caught in sheet lightning.
Blue Sky is such an ungainly mixture of politics, emotion and nostalgia that it's a wonder the movie works at all - but it does.
Indeed, it is Lange's performance that still holds this film together... Presented as a ferocious feline, Lange excels here at the small tics hinting at the madness always lurking below the surface.
Blue Sky amounts to a potent audition for [Lange] role as Tennessee Williams' mad, delicate Southern gentlewoman.
The final film by the great Brit director Tony Richardson.

A loosely structured story that is held together by the gravity of Jessica Lange's inspiring performance. A jumble of adultery, deceit and mental illness made worse by it's obtrusive anti-nuclear agenda.

A sleeper that most people did not catch in 1994. This is the best character that I have seen Jessica Lange do including her earlier depiction of Frances Farmer.
