I first saw this as a child in the 70's and it has stayed with me in found memories ever since. I was only ever able to watch it on the chance it may pop up on British TV,but now after buying it through Amazon I can watch whenever I wish. It's one of those movies that I loved growing up and after watching it again I still do. It's an old family movie that I've always thought was done well. Put simply "innocent family fun" I just hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Robert Ryan plays the titular Jules Verne character. Chuck Connors plays a US Senator (???) who is among a group of survivors from a sinking ship rescued by Captain Nemo and his submarine crew. They're then taken to Nemo's underwater city, where the he's plotting to destroy the surface world. It's a pretty dull script, but the production design and special effects are enough to carry the film and make it worth watching.

Pretty weak sci-adventure. The characters are annoying and the plot dull, even the sometimes imaginative production design has a cheap, tacky feel about it. A past his prime Robert Ryan is miscast as Nemo. Instantly forgettable.

Cheesy, dated and 20 minutes too long, but I'm a sucker for a good underwater adventure, and Captain Nemo and the Underwater City is a fun one.

I would love to see this remade into an incredible adventure film. A lot of great movies came out of 1969,and this was not one of them. It's a good concept, but the problem with this film is that it's just too slow paced, and not ingaging at all. This kind of film, even back then needs to be full of adventure, and damn magical!
