She can be blunt, but not for titillation or to create outrage, and her energy and warmth are her real comic strengths.
Peretti's special is by far the most experimental Netflix original special to date, and also the funniest. It's the first Netflix original stand-up special that truly is one of the greats
Peretti's special doesn't quite live up to its tongue-in-cheek title, but don't let that stop you from adding it to your queue.
The 36-year-old comic seems destined for greater things. Yet on her upward trajectory, Peretti still comes across as the brainy girl next door who can deliver belly laughs.
Early on Peretti looks offstage and sees herself dressed as a clown in the wings. She's later heckled by a childhood photo of herself. Done badly, this onslaught of peripheral nonsense could overwhelm Peretti's act. Here, though, it simply enhances it.
One of the Greats opens with a montage that styles Peretti after her idols, and the special itself is filled with cutaways to Peretti in character, often as a clown. It's a fittingly weird and inventive approach for someone like Peretti.
