I became aware of filmmaker David Sutherland's work after having seen his documentary "Farmers Wife" which I totally enjoyed. In Country Boys he brings back the same style of allowing the camera to simply be the eye to the story that is allowed to tell itself. In this case he focuses on two young men coming of age during their high-school years in Kentucky in the Appalachian Hill country. Both boys have sadness and grief and much to overcome in their young lifes; but have the great advantage of an education and the loving support and care of the staff from an alternative school they go to called "David School". I saw all 3 parts with special features on the two disc set. Excellent film.
