Critic Reviews for Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
Though American movies have largely discarded the family melodrama as passé, DDLJ reminds us of the genre's potency, its ability to stage social and generational conflicts.
It's a flawed, contradictory movie -- aggressive and tender, stiff and graceful, clichéd and fresh, sophisticated and naive, traditional and modern. It's also, I think, a classic.
Aditya Chopra's first film deep-sixed all ideas of rebellious young love, using NRI nostalgia as a hook, and gave Shah Rukh Khan his most successful film...
One of the most-popular romances not only in India but worldwide, and rightly so.
Audience Reviews for Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
It's like Shahrukh Khan has his own style that represents in most of his movies. I'm not a big fan of Kajol but I don't mind watching her. I watched this movie a long time ago. Still remember every part of it. Religious parents can be frightening. They'll give you freedom with some horror in it. I liked this movie a lot. Shahrukh Khan's presents is enough to make the movie hit!
I loved the musical numbers but otherwise I wasn't particularly keen on the film. I found Raj annoying for most if not all of the first half, but found myself liking him better after the intermission.
