Movie Info

Dominick Luciano (Thomas Hulce) is the mentally disabled twin brother of highly intelligent young intern Eugene (Ray Liotta). Anxious to become a successful doctor, Eugene finds he must devote most of his time to caring for Dominick. For his part, Dominick has been contributing to the family unit as a trash collector; in fact, it is his earnings that keeps food on the table. All Dominick wants out of life is a house by the lake where he and his brother can be together for all time. But the ambitious Eugene can't always bring himself to share that vision.

Critic Reviews for Dominick and Eugene

All Critics (20) | Top Critics (7)

Dominick and Eugene is every bit as icky as its premise would suggest, and possibly even more so. The film is a heavy, clanging guilt machine that functions by systematically exploiting Nicky's handicap.

October 17, 2018 | Rating: 1/4 | Full Review…

The film's shameless efforts to reach for the jugular mainly land in bathos.

October 17, 2018 | Full Review…

Taking potentially sticky material...Young has held a hard line and has shaped a story of relationships that rings pure and fine as crystal.

October 17, 2018 | Full Review…

Young's socially-concerned drama is unafraid of tackling complex emotional issues, but what few patronising and hackneyed insights it offers are waved like red flags. Unsophisticated.

January 26, 2006 | Full Review…

As directed by Robert M. Young, ''Dominick and Eugene'' has a refreshing plainness and a welcome unwillingness to milk the story for more pathos than is warranted.

This thoughtful little piece is also sensitive without being sentimental.

Audience Reviews for Dominick and Eugene

the unlikely pairing of tom hulce and ray liotta is the thing here, hulce predictably in the walkaway gimme role of "someone mentally challenged" and ray liotta as a nice guy(gasp!). a feel good movie that feels good.

It has it's moments, here and there, but overall Dominick and Eugene plays like a bad after-school special. Heavy on the sentimentality and lite on the realism. The intentions seem sincere but the result is often sappy and sometimes ridiculous.

Not a bad bit of film. I rarely see Tom Hulce outside of Amadeus and his performance here is good..okay maybe a bit too much after school special.
