Eagle Eye (2008)

Critic Consensus: Eagle Eye is a preposterously plotted thriller that borrows heavily from other superior films.

Movie Info

Shia LaBeouf and Michelle Monaghan star in Disturbia director D.J. Caruso's race-against-time thriller concerning two strangers thrust together by a mysterious telephone call, and their frantic efforts to discover why they have inexplicably become the nation's most wanted fugitives. Jerry Shaw (LaBeouf) and Rachel Holloman (Monaghan) were complete strangers at the beginning of the day, but that changed the instant a strange woman called to threaten both their lives and the lives of their loved ones. Suddenly forced into a series of increasingly dangerous situations, Jerry and Rachel must now take orders from a woman who's using everyday technology to track and control their every move. As the situation intensifies and the hapless duo are deemed the country's most wanted fugitives, they must work together in order to discover who it was that turned their lives upside down, and what they can do to thwart the criminal mastermind's cunning yet diabolical plan. Billy Bob Thornton, Rosario Dawson, Michael Chiklis, and Anthony Mackie co-star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

A warning about the threat in our own backyard -- but as often is the case with Hollywood blockbusters, the warning comes across more like fear-mongering than constructive social criticism. Personally, I prefer my cinema sans mongering.

What's galling about Eagle Eye is that it could easily have been an entertaining film without constantly yielding to the impulse to blow stuff up.

Did everyone involved in this botched thriller OD on speed?

But there's also a puppy-dog doesn't-know-any-better enthusiasm to this pacy fluff which means you can't get that worked up at it.

Very dumb, it was cliche, predictable. And chase scenes were boring. The plot was so easy to tell what happens next, and when is Shia Labeof actually gonna be a good action star. The effcts were the only good thing in a bad movie.

A very well crafted thriller! It is most definitely not the best thriller I have ever seen, but as a film that literally came out of nowhere and just wanted to give you some adrenaline pumping fun, it succeeds with flying colours. This is a 2 hour long film, which could have easily been 3 hours for entertianment. Shia LabBeouf easily represents the best of the young actors out there today, and he never fails to satisfy me. You never truly no what is going on until about halfway through the film when everything that was random begins to come together. With scenarios that I will always be willing to watch, Eagle Eye is fresh in my book. You can actually believe that Shia LaBeouf and Michelle Monaghan are thrown into these roles without knowing each other, because they fit these roles perfectly! What this film does Lack is a reason for why it's happening, but I still love it for trying something new! Eagle Eye is, and always will be a worthy film in my eyes!
