Not as good as the ratings lead you to believe... its ok. It has humour but isn't a horror. Its a comedy.

Another dark but fun flick by Álex de la Iglesia.

Dark and hilarious movie about the end of days approaching, and a priest desperate to meet the devil. Of course the Spaniards make a great film...

Obligatorio visionado.

(1995) El Día de la bestia / The Day Of The Beast
(In Spanish with English subtitles)
HORROR/ COMEDY

Co-written and directed by Álex de la Iglesia which is using a plot device that has already been done before something about the devil and the apocalypse. A priest gets killed on front of another priest after announcing to him that theirs going to be an apocalypse happening in Madrid. He then does despicable acts such as thieving and vandalizing just so he can converse with the devil. There's also a guy on TV who makes money from practicing satanic acts or rituals in which the priest does his best to get in touch with him just so he could get in touch with the devil.

If this was an English speaking movie, then I'm going to have to say that it wouldn't fair as well since it's already been done before and some are many times better such as the Hammer movies which are far more interesting then seeing a bumblehead assuming he can stop something that could possibly be something he created in his head to begin with. And the ending which is a reminiscent to "Don't Look Now" which the build up is for nought.

A damn fine comedy horror. Dark, freaky, funny.

It's not edgy considering it's a movie about the devil. It's almost funny at some points. It feels more like the scifi channel made a horror film.

This very good movie talks about a priest who decides to make the bad around him. I liked due to the metal references in the movie.

hilarious, like a subversive ghostbusters, with great committed performances by alex angulo as the mad priest and especially santiago segura as a heavy metal fan enlisted to help prevent the apocalypse

It's a fresh take on a tired theme specially when you consider the deep, and I mean deep layers underneath the devil story. The performances are also great and Alex de la Iglesia has style and class rarely any director of the new generation has.
