Marie Dressler is one of those classic Hollywood actresses I've always heard of but never watched any of her films and I have to say I think I've been missing out. She's quiet likable in funny in this film as a nanny/housekeeper for a wealthy family. The youngest is her favorite and the others are all spoiled brats, who she indulges and makes excused for their behavior. Myrna Loy plays one of the bratty kids (well, a a grown brat), which is fun. There's also some funny pre-code racy humor, such as:

"Don't be silly, Bill. Storks don't bring babies."
"You don't know anything about it."
"Don't I?!"

Overall, this isn't a classic, but Dressler is terrific and getting to see a young Myrna Loy is always fun.

Old fashioned comedy and tearjerker about Emma, a woman who takes care of a family and raises the children as her own until one day the children turn on driven by greed and pettiness. The story gets a little hokey but the what makes the film so watchable is the incredible Marie Dressler. Her dead on comic chops and double takes are priceless and she knows how to tug at the heartstrings. A must see for old film buffs.

Wonderful old melodrama from 1932 starring Marie Dressler as the nanny who takes over the household and raises the children when the mother dies during childbirth of the youngest son (who she is particuarly close to). Myrna Loy in a very young role (though a small part) as the eldest daughter. Ms. Dressler delivers a memorable performance as "Emma".

Extremely strong performance from Marie Dressler. One of her best. While the plot gets predictable at the end, "Emma" provides a lot of really interesting elements - a great romance between older characters, an interesting mother/chidren dynamic, a bitchtastic Myrna Loy.
