The picture tempo abroad is so entirely different from this country that it is rather hard to follow the story as it proceeds.

The Hardy-esque touches of dialogue cannot be reproduced, of course, but the film has succeeded in catching the happiest way the atmosphere of Wessex, which might well have proved an insurmountable barrier.

Screen patrons in this country know that Miss Turner may be counted on to give an interesting performance in most any role she attempts and her characterization of the country girl in Far from the Madding Crowd is no disappointment.
The pictures were taken in rural Wales, and they offer quaint glimpses of landscape highways and byways which are distinctly foreign to anything in this country. For this reason the picture has a distinct value aside from its story.
When it comes to modern directing, Trimble is years behind the times. He fails utterly to bring out the strong emotional revelations Miss Turner exhibited when she became our first veritable star.
The scenery Is pretty and the cast performs acceptably enough, but the trouble seems to lie equally between the drawbacks of the story as a medium of visualization and the manner In which it was produced,
