First Cow is a delightful movie that moves slowly but purposefully.

It's a tender, moving, painful depiction of friendship and classism and privilege and trust, and a film worth seeing in the theater.

John Magaro and Orion Lee have created two fascinating characters that fit into the productions' low-key and careful tone while bringing muddy Oregon to life. [Full review in Spanish]

I doubt I'll see a lovelier film in 2020.

First Cow shows Kelly Reichardt at the height of her artistic and political powers, with supreme command over her own personal vision of American progress and its consequences.

The latest release from ingenious director Kelly Reichardt is a brilliant and moving drama, but also an unusual one.

In Reichardt's unsentimental hands, though, simplicity comes not as solace but rather as an unsweetened truth: today we reap the seeds of America's poisonous past.

Nothing here is simple -- alliances are constantly shifting.

[First Cow] never takes the easy way out... It is subtle, well-directed, and the cinematography is gorgeous.

Finds a warm balance between tension and the pleasure of just watching two kindred types find each other and make a life for themselves in a difficult place.

A24 and Reichardt are powerful filmmaking forces to be reckoned with. Particularly considering that each has, arguably, never made a bad film. It was just a matter of time before the gravitational pull of the two forces was too great to keep them apart.

As she has with her previous films, genius writer/director Kelly Reichardt doesn't shout a thesis in your face or deeply probe a story for thematic insights. She just kinda pokes at themes with a stick. But it's such a lovely stick...

The slowest heist movie of all time. That's a compliment.

A simple story about friendship. A revisionist Western reworking fables of masculinity and frontiers. A softly savage deconstruction of the American dream, of capitalism itself. An astonishing movie.

A friendship between humans instead of human and animal is a rarity in Reichardt's films, so this story of genuine friendship is particularly lovely.

I don't know if the film is perfect, but it's pretty damn close.

...an affecting, thoughtful bittersweet tale that warm us with its contemplative portrait of friendship while it chills us with its economic brutality.

Kelly Reichardt's First Cow is a masterful achievement, with the writer/director unearthing an enriching experience from Cookie and King-Lu's complex journey for prosperity.

The tone of First Cow is warm and fuzzy until the very end that watching it unfolds is like going through a soothing meditation.
