Critic Consensus: Focus may have a few too many twists and turns, but it nearly skates by on its glamorous setting and the charm of its stars.

Focus is a bit too slick, but engaging nonetheless.
It reminds us why he became a star in the first place, and provides a glimpse of where he might go from here.

If it's so easy to guess what women want, why is this movie so utterly devoid of any of it?
In Focus, [Smith is] quieter, graver, more emotionally remote, more... substantial.

Focus has some hard swallows, including a last-reel speech so inessential it's comical, but it's also got a unique syncopation about it that's admirable, if not entirely effective.

[Writer-directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa] set exactly the right tone as well as tweaking the plot with enough twists to keep your brain engaged. And it looks good too.

Audience Reviews for Focus
Decent rom com about con artists. Not something I would generally choose, but it was on Netflix and my mum likes Will Smith, so watched it with her. Some of the cons were pretty interesting and the story was quite good. Margot Robbie was a good choice for the lead female too.

Its narrative structure and tone are all over the place, but thankfully 'Focus' boasts two extremely charismatic leads, stunning cinematography and a breezy pace to make it slightly enjoyable.

Will Smith has fallen off his pedestal and climbed back up so many times that it is almost a complete gamble as to whether or not his newest films will ever turn out good. This time around, he gives it his all and it makes for a very enjoyable picture, however, Focus' plot twists are far too complex that it becomes unbelievable by the time they are done. Watching Nicky fall in and out of money throughout the course of the film was a very interesting story to follow and the chemitry between Will Smith and Margot Robbie was pretty great, but the rug is practically pulled out from the entire film by the end and every set up kind of falls by the wayside. I did not like the ending in the slightest, but I had fun with this film enough to recommend it to Will Smith fans, or crime fans alike. "Focus" is unfocussed at times, but still enjoyable nonetheless.
