Critic Reviews for Funeral in Berlin

the least interesting of the [first] three Harry Palmer films... Mostly due to a lack of character development and the numerous double-crossings make the plot difficult to follow.
Faithful hardcore genre fans will find much to like here among the cloaks and daggers.... On the other hand, the pacing is slow and the twisty, sometimes flabby script might be frustrating for a viewer not fully engaged with such skullduggery.
disjointed and disappointing
Second and least successful entry in the Harry Palmer series has its moments.
Funeral in Berlin is a smooth and slickly done espionage movie that derives most of its success from the fact that actor Michael Caine is so able.
Audience Reviews for Funeral in Berlin
Not quite as good as the first, but Michael Caine is a delight as Harry Palmer, and plenty of twists and turns keep you guessing until the end. Oscar Homolka as Colonel Stok is also lots of fun.
Super Reviewer
A fair spy thriller with a laidback, more morose Caine as Harry Palmer, in an even bleaker plot than the first one, It has some interesting twists. but the tension is not consistent, Director Guy Hamilton can't quite reproduce Sidney J. Furie's style, the one thing that made the first film so appealing.
Super Reviewer
This second in Michael Caine's series of three "Harry Palmer" films is very good spy movie. Caine can do no wrong; his brittle performance and the authentic footage of the Berlin Wall add considerably to the film's bleak tone.
