Movie Info

Elvis Presley stars in GI Blues as Tulsa McLean, a soldier stationed in Germany, who pulls strings to stage a big show for his fellow GI's. In the tradition of the musical chestnut The Fleet's In, Tulsa also bets his buddies that he can date "ice princess" entertainer Lili (Juliet Prowse). Song highlights include "Wooden Heart," "Blue Suede Shoes" and the title number. The spectacular box-office performance of G.I. Blues proved that Elvis' popularity had not only survived his Army tenure, but had actually increased. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

'Elvis does an adequate job carrying the movie, playing his natural self in a project that was produced solely to capitalize on his return to civilian life.'

Audience Reviews for G.I. Blues

Not as good as King Creole nor as flashy as Viva Las Vegas this still falls into the plus category as far as Elvis films go. He has a talented costar in Juliet Prowse and while the script is innocuous it certainly is far better than the slug he would be making just a few years later like Speedway and Harum Scarum. He looks very fetching in his uniform, the songs by and large are pretty good and there are attractive locations. A pleasant diversion.

Even though it's a formulaic and stereotypical Elvis film, it's an enjoyable formulaic and stereotypical Elvis film.
