In this backstage musical, Al Jolson plays an irresponsible performer whose unprofessional antics incur the wrath of Actor's Equity. Suspended from the stage, Jolson spends all his money on gambling, but is "cured" after his wife is wounded when Jolson shoots it out with a rival.

It has both story and show value, it is lively and well balanced, and generally speaking, it recognizes that there are other ways of making an audience forget the passage of time besides slugging it into unconsciousness with huge ensemble numbers.
