In this film, the Upshaws are a nouveau riche couple. While Matt prefers to live his life simply, his wife is determined to crash high society. To appease his wife, Matt hires lunch-counter waitress Annie to pose as the Upshaw's daughter, thereby qualifying for the upcoming debutante ball.
