The low-budget effort from Vancouver writer-director Scooter Corkle is earnest and methodical, with a tone-setting murkiness to it.
Corkle has amply demonstrated his strengths as a filmmaker, in crafting a noir-ish tale with a few well-placed twists and in assembling a solid cast bolstered by an engaging lead.
A well-told story, with a strong sense of place.
Hollow in the Land traffics in familiar rural thriller territory. But it features an excellent performance from its lead actress and a strong atmosphere of moody tension courtesy of its writer/director.
It's a rough neck Shakespearean tragedy that makes for a fine showcase for [Dianna] Agron, and proves a sharp directorial debut for filmmaker [Scooter] Corkle.
The movie mirrors Alison's desperation through dimly lit dead-end clues and hectic chase sequences through town.
