Movie Info

After his mother's death, Fred P. Cheney (Bob Goldthwaith) must share the family financial business with his scheming stepfather Walter Sawyer (Dabney Coleman) in this misfired comedy. Fred also inherits Don, a talking horse who provides him with hot tips on the stock market. Don's voice is provided by John Candy, and Virginia Madsen plays Fred's romantic interest Allison Rowe. Mr. Ed and Francis the Talking Mule must be rolling over in their graves over this uneven comedy attempt. ~ Dan Pavlides, Rovi

Critic Reviews for Hot to Trot

All Critics (16) | Top Critics (6)

Hot to Trot is a movie to make ninnies whinny, audiences gag and horses hide their heads.

It`s true that there has been a shocking dearth of talking-horse pictures lately, but even so, Hot to Trot has few pleasures to offer.

April 21, 2015 | Rating: 1/4

The humor is so low that it could justifiably be called subterranean.

I am not going to try to tell you that this one-joke, talking-horse comedy is, in any meaningful sense, a good movie. What I am going to say is that it's a little better than my rock-bottom expectations led me to predict.

April 21, 2015 | Rating: 2/5

Although Michael Dinner's direction is noticeably better than the material, the film aims consistently for the lowest common denominator.

August 30, 2004

Hot to Trot is an unbridled disaster, a screwball horseplay so lame you want to put it out of its misery. Equus is funnier.

Audience Reviews for Hot to Trot

I loved Bobcat, but these horses can't act! I enjoyed this silly comedy anyway. It's got a lot of funny jokes, so I found it entertaining even thought the horses got on my nerves from time to time.

Pure cheesy goodness. A childhood fave, as well. :)

A couple of funny moments, but nothing exceptional.
