Movie Info

A raucous story of the interweaving lives and loves of small-town delinquents, shady cops, pretty good girls and very bad boys. With Irish guts and grit, lives collide, preconceptions shatter and romance is tested to the extreme. An ill-timed and poorly executed couple's break-up sets off a chain of events affecting everyone in town. There's the hapless romantic and his sex-starved best friend, the hotshot detective and the crook he's after, a young girl on the rebound with an older married man--not to mention his deserted wife, an ambitious TV producer, an abandoned fiancée, a preteen trouble-maker--all of whom are unaware of how their choices are profoundly intertwined. Add a botched robbery, some brown sauce, a woman's moustache, flying rocks and dancing single seniors and you have "Intermission."

A hyperkinetic ride through Dublin's underside. Just imagine Robert Altman directing on speed.

The great thing about Intermission is that you barely have time to spot the gaps.

Not real Irish, but the movie kind: the latest to stumble off the [John] Ford assembly-line.

Lots of great stories and plots and reveals and quirks and weirdnesses, but I can't say I remember much of it all.

A very interesting ensemble drama. I loved a lot about most of the stories, but there were some that were not so great. It had a great sense of humor thrown in that was brilliantly played out by the actors. Cillian Murphy was definitely the standout, being a completely lovable loser.

After one of the greatest and most unexpected openings to a film I've ever seen the film is off to a good start. It begins as though it may be some kind of Irish Mike Leigh film. Unfortunately it goes down a convoluted route of too many characters in an intertwining plot similar to Lock, Stock. The performances and execution are both brilliant. It's an impressive looking film with lots to like unfortunately there isn't a single character one can relate to. Rather than blurring the lines between good and bad most people are just scum or act in irritating ways. It hurts a film that's script is in dire need of surgery. Still it manages to nail dark/disturbing comedy.
