I'm giving this movie all 5 stars ONLY for the reason that this is one of the best, one of my favorite & one of the most hilarious episodes of MST3K, BUT that should tell you everything you need to know about how horribly absurd this movie is without the MST3K treatment. From the annoying kids that run everywhere to the hero that's kind of a jerk & can inexplicably fly a car, this movie on it's own merits is a disaster on every level.

The plot doesn't flow right, and the bad editing drags the already sluggish pace. The hero is pretty forgettable, as are the invaders and the action. Some fun moments, but not a easy watch.

Invasion of the Neptune Men is Japan's answer to the success of Forbidden Planet, or so it seems anyway. Not only do the aliens look like Robby the Robot, but the kids in the movie actually play with a toy of Robby the Robot. Yeah, it's that blatant. It's also another attempt at a Prince of Space-type movie. I'm sure these movies were successful at the time and children ate them up, especially when you consider that the children in the movie play a major role. You might even say there is far too much of them, and the horrible shrill overdubbing doesn't help. The film was featured on an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000, which is about the only thing people remember about it. It also pops up in these big 50 Movie Sci-Fi DVD sets every so often, which should tell you everything you need to know about the quality of it. It's just not a great movie and it doesn't hold up at all.

one of the worst movies ever, horrible almost funny special effects don't help story much

Really great stuff. 90% of the film is the characters running back and forth between points A and B. And Space Chief? He's the awesomest superhero/single father of like five adopted kids ever. Space Chief is so cool you don't need to know where he got his AMAZING ability to dodge laser beams or how his car flies through space. If you find yourself running back and forth from points A and B, be sure to give Invasion of the Neptune Men a watch! (As long as you don't take any of it seriously. It's even funnier with the MST3k commentary.)

The alien invaders from planet Neptune look more like Earthlings in costumes, especially since you can seen their hands, which look like normal hands. This was an ok film. I think it would be better if the aliens actually looked like aliens instead of Power rangers.

Why the fuck does Flixster have a video of Herman's Hermits I'm Into Something Good as the trailer on this movie? I thought it was some kind of sick joke as you found something good w/ this movie. Maybe so bad it's good..well maybe not. It does try it & it does have it's moments but over all the script itself is lousy that all the little kitch has a hard time making up for it. In the very least @ least it has point of interest of having Sonny Chiba in it in a earlier role. He was lucky that he didn't end up getting type cast as Space Chief. Such a role a ruin a career. All in all you can take the entire thing & slap it on some white bead w/ some ham & mustard

One of the greatest bad Japanese films ever made.

Terrible movie, but one of the best MST3K episodes. The wraparounds are hilarious.

Sony Chiba stars as Space Chief, another masked alien fighter hiding in Japan to defend the Earth against kind of dumb alien invaders. It's fun, but pretty inconsequential. Plenty of awful dubbing, as expected. Pretty cool space ship designs and the model destruction scenes are good.

Oddly unbalanced sci-fi spectacle. A lot of running around and repeated footage, but little essense. A point for trying, though.

What Zardoz is to Sean Connery, Invasion of the Neptune Men is to the great Sonny Chiba

Why is everyone in this film running so much?? Are they late, did they all simultaneously forget to put the sushi back into the fridge?? Is this movie based on the events that occurred over the span of five centuries in actual time? And why does 'Space Chief' look like Racer-X from Speed Racer? And what's up with all those kids with interchangeable dialogues? Why do women randomly enter scenes and smile? Who's idea was it to have 70 minute action sequences separated only by shots of people running?

For a movie that doesn't answer these and many other important questions, it makes for a kickass MST3K episode.

A group of strangely dubbed Japanese children discover an army of shiny aliens ready to take over the world (well Japan at least). Lucky they are saved by Space Chief who looks goofy and drives a tricked out golf cart. So awful writing about it seems to give this movie to much attention.

Not as bad as all that, but still pretty bad. Mostly because the climax is all just stock footage, with a few carelessly-chosen images ("They blew up the Hitler building").

Herman's Hermits ??? This must be amovie from an alternate parallel universe.

I love the MST3k Episode with this film.

This is an incredibly boring and predictable movie. Look out for a cameo from Adolf Hitler.

This rating system is far too one-dimensional. Sure, as an actual film it fails hard, but the dubbing alone is worth the price of admission. I think I've contracted Noji Panty Complex, by the way.

If you thought Godzilla, Gamera and Mothra were the worst movies Japan ever made, check out this!
