This is a movie where attention is given to the lives of the characters, not the flourishes of the director. And it is a very subtle film, as we gradually begin to see, through Marie's eyes and our own, the undercurrents in the adult world around [her].
With L'Adolescente, an evocative portrait of the coming of age of an adolescent girl in pre-World War II France, Jeanne Moreau, the former international film star, establishes herself as a director to be reckoned with.

Audience Reviews for L'Adolescente (An Adolescent Girl)
Whilst Jeanne Moreau will always be considered one of the Grande Dames of cinema, her small directoral output it seems has been overlooked. This gentle coming of age drama however, starring that other great French actress, Simone Signoret, may have slight flaws but is well worth watching just to see another side of Moreau's talent.
