Critic Reviews for Last Train from Gun Hill
This largely forgotten Western is out in a splendid Blu-ray restoration featuring Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn as aging frontier relics whose hidebound ways lead to their inevitable confrontation.
Described as an adult western, the 95-minute tale is not for the faint of heart as it immediately gets to the plot without sparing a second, enabling the drama to develop a rolling boil as tensions build straight to the final moments of the film.
Last Train from Gun Hill is a good, old-fashioned, classic Western with an excellent cast and an interesting story.
Reunites many of the key players from Gunfight at the O.K. Corral but is more similar in tale and tone to 3:10 to Yuma.
John Sturges certainly delivers the goods in Last Train from Gun Hill and the VistaVision presentation is outstanding on screen.
Audience Reviews for Last Train from Gun Hill
Solid western with good performances across the board but Carolyn Jones is a particular standout.
Great Western. After his wife is raped and murdered a U.S Marshall (Douglas) tracks down the killers, only to find out its was a son of a lifelong friend (Quinn). Director John Sturges (The Magnificent Seven) built up the tension nicely and the acting from both Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn was excellent. There are similarity's to this and 3:10 to Yuma, but this story was more believable, with no cheesy dialogue and an intelligent ending
Arite, I got roped into watching this tonight but while I must admit I am not a big fan of westerns, (A History of Violence is in a class all by itself); I thought this one was darn good. A rock solid classic western with strong actors in two crusty old timers; Kirk Douglas plays a lawman determined to bring justice his wife's killers and avenge her rape and murder. The problem is that one of the killers turns out to be the only son of his best friend, a rich land and cattle baron played by Anthony Quinn. A great no nonsense script with a superb showdown.
