This is a watered down version of Raiders of the Lost Ark. The Germans (Nazis?) are out to capture religious artifacts that don't belong to them and will stop at nothing to obtain them. There is even a scene which mimics the rolling ball scene in this movie - only it is rushing water instead. The good guys, who seemed to mesh better in the first movie, try everything within the law to stop them. I enjoyed Camille Natta in her role as the religious expert of the police force. Average crime thriller.

Killer monks hopped up on drugs, have mad skills in parkour, bullets can't put them down! Exactly what order is this and does the Vatican know!

Nazis, Monks, and Gold! French style Die Hard with more thriller then plain action. Engaging!

An interesting sequel to the first highly entertaining first episode. This second chapter see Jean Reno coming back detective P. Niemans for a brand new investigation. It's well directed, well shot & the cast is great. Lacking for sure the freshness of the first film, this second one is nevertheless entertaining from start to finish.

A jeter.

Watched a bit, and that's enough. Negligible chances of giving it a go again in the distinct future. Highly recommended for those who like it!!!

This is even worse than the first movie.
More blah, less action, even more diffuse plot.

Actually this film was even better than the first Crimson Rivers movie was. While the story was based on a slightly odd twists, it worked well and the action scenes were very fine. The horror part was mainly on the blood & guts department, mostly this was an action movie. The chase sequence is very well done too.
Christopher Lee, Jean Reno and other well known actors do their job well and the film gets better around halfway - and not the other way around as is often the situation with violent action movies. A bit surprisingly, the action and the scenes flow seamlessly from one another and one does not have to wonder where is the film going - everything is clear in this movie.
What weaknesses, then: Well, it starts a bit slowly. Second, the plot behind the story is quite unbelievable, as are many of the stunts. So its not that realistic, but then again, not that many films are.. Unfortunately, its a bit twisty story too, so it may in the beginning seem a bit hard to follow.
Gets better after a slow start. One of the better catch-the-serial-killers- type of thrillers. A bit over violent, but watchable; exciting but not over-the-board; thrilling yet action filled. Just the right lenght, had it been any longer, it might have become slow paced, but as it was, it was very action-oriented. Suprisingly well done all-around action thriller which I saw on television.

so so sequel with lots of plot holes as inspector tries 2 solve this murder mystery bathed in religious overtones.

Loses a lot of what made the first chapter interesting. The very gruesome images of the murdered people, or the oppression that every scene creates and it misses also Vincent Cassel, here substituted by a funny (at moments) Benoit Magimel, that doesn't have 1/10 of the carisma Cassel has.

The cinematography is once again well done and Jean Reno is once again pitch perfect in his role but there's not a whole lot going on in this rather uninspired sequel.
The absence of Vincent Cassel doesn't help either.

Anything with Jean Reno and Benoit Magimel gets at least 4 stars, no matter how weak it actually is.
Lots of chases on foot, which was interesting - I guess Olivier Dahan is a running enthusiast.
The story is interesting, but not strong enough to overcome the memory of Da VInci Code, combined with The Name of the Rose. It just never gets out of that religious treasure cliche.
Acting is really weak, except for the two Gods mentioned above.
But the movie is crimson all right.
