Movie Info

Fernand (Lino Ventura) is the owner of a small company that makes tractors. When he gets involved with gangster his gambling debts mount, he is called on to do a favor for the mob. Fernand is asked to look after the daughter of a dying friend. When a longtime mobster heavy (Bernard Blier) takes exception to Fernand for being an outsider, they come after Fernand who is equal to the task. Fernand defends himself in a series of comical killings from the onslaught of the mob.

Many of the quips in the slangy, metaphorical dialogue seem to lose their bite in translation. But the kooky sound design, the supple direction, and the thugs' rubber-faced reactions generate plenty of chuckles on their own.
