Sterling adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic is set in Victorian London, where a young seamstress (Sarah Pickering) who was born in debtors prison falls in love with her employer's businessman son (Derek Jacobi). Alec Guinness was nominated for Best Supporting Actor as the girl's impoverished, incarcerated father. Directed by Christine Edzard, who adapted the novel and received an Oscar nod for Best Adapted Screenplay.
