Critic Consensus: Brash and big-hearted, The Lovers on the Bridge can sweep away most viewers with its mad romanticism.

Think of it as cinema living rough, scruffy patches of tedium broken by bursts of lunatic freedom.

A film both glorious and goofy, inspiring affection and exasperation in nearly equal measure.

... a lush cinematic painting of love, passion, and madness expressed in a romantic surrealist style and images charges with color and magic.

Audience Reviews for Les Amants du Pont-Neuf (The Lovers on the Bridge)

A beautiful and profoundly moving tale of amour fou about what it means to live with (and to be set free from) any crutches of dependency, being those real or symbolic (like a blinding disease or the need of someone else's affection), imposed on us by society, ourselves or our own limitations.

a stunning love letter to paris, as well as the story of two homeless people in love. the cinematography here is quite mind blowing, and the street life is romanticized a little bit, but the film makes me want to forgive it all faults, even going over the top to dizzying heights. the ambiguous ending is an homage to 'l'atalante'. wildly romantic!
