Movie Info

MANHATTAN ROMANCE centers on Danny (Tom O'Brien), a commercial editor and documentary filmmaker, as he attempts to finish his film -- a study on modern relationships -- while navigating the relationships in his own life. Will Danny continue to chase the unattainable Theresa, a free-spirited dancer (Caitlin FitzGerald), or will he finally admit he's in love with his best friend Carla (Katherine Waterston) who is in an unfulfilling relationship with Emmy (Gaby Hoffmann), a political strategist? -- (C) Level 33

Frenetic camerawork doesn't enliven the dull Danny, who champions ambiguity in art while pursuing cut-and-dried relationships in life.

This is irrelevant navel-gazing at its most tepid. Nothing (new) to see here, folks.

Audience Reviews for Manhattan Romance

I had wondered where Katherine Waterston had come from and I finally came across one of her indie films. The film is at times bizarre but never dull, this is why indie filmmaking is leagues in front of the Hollywood mechanism. Besides Woody ALlen crafting films in his style and with unpredictable beats, filmmakers tend to fall on the Hollywood sword. The conclusion is fitting with the storytelling and I applaud writer/director for not giving the audience a super sweet finale. Waterston is the heart of the film and she is very cute and adorable, even if the film mirrors some of Chasing Amy's storyline. Interesting film that deserves more recognition. 05/10/2018.
