Movie Info

This charming lesbian drama tells the tale of an undocumented Mexican nanny, Margarita (Nicola Correia Damude, De Grassi: The Next Generation) whose girlfriend Jane (Christine Horne, Tru Love) is reluctant to commit and whose yuppie employers - a nice Toronto family with money problems - are about to let her go. A warm and funny crowd-pleaser, the film features an excellent supporting cast that includes Patrick McKenna (The Red Green Show) and teen star Maya Ritter (Finn's Girl).

The cast works valiantly and the cinematography is crisp, but trite characterizations and an earnest-cutesy tone make this movie feel like too much domestic labour.

The director wastes all the interesting opportunities he had to make this a great documentary of a very interesting character. [Full review in Spanish]

As a look at what's going on in the gentrified core of Canada's biggest city, it's as hard to buy as one of those renovated houses, just steps from the subway and a bike ride to the food market.
