Critic Reviews for Marionette (Repression)
All Critics (11) | Top Critics (2) | Fresh (8) | Rotten (3)
It runs a little overlong and rushes through important character beats, but Strien does succeed in creating a high concept thriller that doesn't quite go where you'd expect.
A third-act plot twist is audacious enough to regain our attention, but Reuten and Wolf don't quite have the charisma necessary to fully carry it off.

A refreshing addition to the "creepy kid" sub-genre. Atmospheric with high tension, the movie is not just content with jump scares and shadowy figures.
A late movie twist subverts some of what came before, but before it disappears down its philosophical rabbit hole, Marionette is an enjoyable Hitchcockian story.
An ungainly psychological thriller about a widowed shrink and creepy child patient doesn't live up to its intellectual pretensions.
A rare film that defies us to guess exactly where it's going, while playing fairly with laying out its clues.
