Critic Reviews for McQueen
This is a visually powerful, emotionally draining documentary.
McQueen's great legacy is the beauty and skill that lay beneath the compulsion to outrage.
What keeps McQueen from being a brilliant doco is its willingness to skim over the darkest parts of the designer's life.
"McQueen" doesn't even have to try to make the case for McQueen's brilliance. It's all there, right on the screen; this dude was artistically bonkers in all the right ways.
Audience Reviews for McQueen
Any other year and this eye-opening look at the world of fashion and one of its most fearless and rebellious designers might have stood out among the crowd as well as introducing many viewers (myself included) to a world they know very little about. In the year of the documentary though, McQueen simply stands as the rule rather than the exception. This isnï¿ 1/2(TM)t necessarily a bad place to be given the present company and while I still might not completely ï¿ 1/2getï¿ 1/2Â? the world of fashion, this doc at least sets the uninitiated on the path to a better understanding and appreciation.
Although it is only a pity that it doesn't delve further into McQueen's darkness and what exactly tormented his troubled soul, this is an intimate and always compelling look at the life and work of a brilliant fashion designer who used his inner demons to create stunning art.
